Sliding Rock is a popular natural water slide located in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, North Carolina. This 60-foot sloping boulder allows visitors to slide down into an 8-foot deep pool of chilly mountain water, typically ranging between 50-60°F. It's a favorite spot for families and adventure seekers during the warmer months.


Key Information:

  • Seasonal Operation: Open year-round, but lifeguards are on duty, and restrooms/changing facilities are available daily from 10 AM to 6 PM between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
  • Admission Fee: $5 per person during staffed hours; children 3 and under are free. Outside these hours, access is free, but facilities are closed.
  • Safety Guidelines: Children under 7 must slide with an adult. Only life jackets and children's puddle jumpers are permitted as flotation devices. Sliding is allowed in a sitting position only.
  • Amenities: Observation decks for non-sliders, restrooms, and changing rooms available during staffed hours.
  • Tips: The area can become crowded between noon and 4 PM; arriving early is recommended. Water shoes and durable swimwear are advised due to the rocky surface.
